The satellite imagery from GoogleMaps is outstanding! Click on GoogleMap in the Family Tree menu to the left (you must be logged in to see the menu). Use the mouse to "grab" the map by clicking on the right of the map window. Drag it to the left until you get to Eastern Europe. Look for the yellow marker just west of Romania. Click on the marker. Select "Zoom In" or use the zoom controls on the right of the map to zoom. You can actually see cars in the street at the highest zoom level available!

I've completed a MAJOR upgrade of the site:
- Latest stable phpGedView - Fixed errors in phpGedView / PostNuke integration - Updated PNphpBB2 to the latest stable (Forums) - Added support for German and Italian (menus and framework only - articles are in English) - Added GoogleMap - try this very neat plug-in. Add your location to the map. Please let me know if you have any problems. Note: if you don't see the "Family Tree" menu to the left you must log in. Posted by: mobrien on Sep 04, 2006 - 01:21 PM
I've posted a PDF version of "Die Milleker Familienbuch" (The Milleker Family Album) on the site. You can download a copy here. This edition is a few years old; hopefully there's a fifth edition in the near future.

Recently I was given the opportunity to share the costs of obtaining a complete photographic archive of the Kudritz Church records. A few distant relatives and descendants of Kudritz pitched in $600 for a 19 volume set of CDs containing the records from 1742 into the 20th century. Erich Mueller, of Germany, is working to transcribe these records into an online database. If you know German, Latin, and/or Hungarian and would like to assist Erich in this process, or if you would like access to these records, please contact me via email Posted by: mobrien on Jan 14, 2006 - 02:04 PM
John Milleker, my great-grandfather, a barber by trade, departed Bremen, Germany aboard the Reich on April 22, 1909. He arrived in this great country at the port of Baltimore on May 6, 1909 with the princely sum of $12 in his pocket. He was 5' 4 1/2" tall with red hair and brown eyes. I can only imagine how terrified and excited he was to arrive in his new home.
The ship's passenger list from the Reich will be posted in the Photos section soon. Posted by: mobrien on Jan 26, 2005 - 03:51 PM
I was delighted to hear from a Bornhoffer descendant last week. Richard Bornhoffer, from Mannheim Germany, was searching for Bornhoffers in Cincinatti. I explained that I had been looking for a connection to that family for several years with no luck. Richard and I compared notes, and using information from Ancestry.com, we were able to determine that he and I are 3rd cousins once removed! Our common ancestor is Johann Milleker, my great-great-grandfather and Richard's great-great-great-grandfather. His great-great-grandmother, Rosina, was John Milleker's sister.
So this closes the mystery of the man with the bees on his head. He was in fact Liz (Milleker) Mumford's cousin! Posted by: mobrien on Jan 17, 2005 - 10:19 PM
